Marble Adhesive Glue: Epoxy or Polyester? Which to Buy
Which marble adhesive glue to buy: polyester mastics for indoor joints that are sanded and polished, epoxy for outdoor, wet, load-bearing and white stone, plus how to get an invisible joint.

The best marble adhesive glue depends on where the joint will live. For indoor work that has to be fixed, sanded and polished quickly, such as countertop joints, edge build-ups and inlay, a two-part polyester mastic is the standard choice. For anything outdoors, wet, load-bearing or on white marble that must not yellow, use a two-part epoxy. Ordinary tile adhesive, cement and household superglue are not stone glues: they either fail under load or leave a visible, unpolishable line.
This guide explains the two families of stone glue sold in India, which one suits your job and how to get an invisible joint. It is written by Flagstone Fix, the stone-care brand of Zyax Chem Pvt Ltd and an authorised partner of Faber Italy Tile & Stone Care. Every product mentioned is in our stone adhesives and epoxy range.

Polyester or epoxy: what is the difference?
Both are two-part systems: a resin and a hardener that react to form a hard, stone-like solid. They behave very differently on site.
| Polyester mastic | Epoxy adhesive | |
|---|---|---|
| Mixing | Resin plus 1–4% hardener paste, mixed by eye | Two parts at a fixed ratio, e.g. 2:1 for Flagstone Fix Flagpox 5010 |
| Curing | Fast: workable for minutes, sandable within hours | Slower: Flagstone Fix Flagpox 5010 bears load after 12 hours, full strength in 7 days |
| Finish | Sands and polishes with the stone | Hard, can be polished once fully cured |
| Outdoors and wet areas | May yellow slightly outdoors over time | Better weather and moisture resistance |
| Typical use | Fabrication workshops, indoor joints, edge lamination, filling | Exterior cladding, wet areas, structural bonds, white stone |
A simple rule many fabricators follow: polyester in the workshop, epoxy on the facade.
Polyester marble mastics
Flagstone Fix Mastic Soft is a two-component polyester mastic for bonding natural and engineered stone. Its soft consistency makes it particularly suitable for vertical surfaces, and it has good grinding, milling, drilling and polishing properties. Flagstone Fix Mastic Liquid is a two-component polyester mastic listed for large area filling, crack and void repair, and edge and joint bonding. Use 1–4% hardener by weight and keep layers no thicker than 2 mm. Faber GL 88 is Faber’s pre-accelerated polyester compound, mixed with about 2% of the supplied catalyst (never below 1% or above 3%) and applied only to dry stone.
Colour-match the mastic to the stone with Flagstone Fix Colouring Tint at up to 5%; see how to colour-match resin filler to your marble or granite. For the full method, read gluing and grouting marble slabs with polyester mastic.
Clear polyester glues for invisible joints
On veined or translucent marble, a coloured mastic line shows. Clear polyesters let the stone’s own pattern show through the joint. Flagstone Fix Transparent Soft is a knife-grade clear gel with UV stabilisers and very high adhesion that polishes to a sheen. Flagstone Fix Waterclear Gel Special has a soft, creamy texture for vertical cracks and joints, while Flagstone Fix Crack Fill Waterclear and Flagstone Fix Transparent Liquid flow into wide cracks and larger surfaces. Flagstone Fix Universal Clear Gel and Flagstone Fix Universal Liquid are translucent all-rounders for natural and engineered stone. All of these can yellow slightly outdoors over time, so keep them indoors. More in our fabricator’s guide to clear polyester resin.
Epoxy adhesives for outdoor, wet and white stone
Flagstone Fix Flagpox 5010 is a two-component, solvent-free epoxy adhesive gel for natural and artificial coloured stone. It mixes 2:1, has low yellowing, can bear loads after 12 hours and reaches full strength in 7 days. If you have been using Akemi’s Akepox 5010, Flagstone Fix Flagpox 5010 is the equivalent in our range: the same type of solvent-free epoxy gel at the same 2:1 ratio.
For white and light-coloured marble, use Flagstone Fix Flagpox Pro Clear 777, a non-yellowing, solvent-free epoxy gel, or Flagstone Fix Flagpox Pro 777 Surface & Joint Filler for UV-resistant joint and crack filling. Do not use any of these epoxies below 10°C, as curing may be incomplete.
For hairline cracks, Faber GL 80 Epoxy (A+B) is a low-viscosity epoxy that penetrates deep into marble, granite and natural stone. To resin and harden a fragile marble, granite or natural stone slab, Faber GL 34 (A+B) is used; see epoxy resining for fragile marble and granite slabs.
How to glue marble for a strong, invisible joint
- Clean and dry. Remove dust, old adhesive, wax and grease from both faces. Glue only bonds to dry, sound stone.
- Rough the faces. Lightly abrade polished edges so the glue can key into the surface.
- Tint if needed. Add colour paste to the resin before the hardener, matching the stone in daylight.
- Mix the right amount. Mix only what you can use within the working time, at the exact ratio for that product.
- Apply and clamp. Spread a thin, even layer on both faces, press together and clamp or support until it has set. Scrape squeeze-out while it is still soft.
- Finish. Once cured, sand the joint flush and polish it with the rest of the surface.

Mistakes that cause failed or visible joints
- Using tile adhesive or cement to join slabs. They are made for bedding tiles, not bonding stone edges, and leave a thick grey line.
- Too much hardener in polyester mastic. It cures too fast, turns brittle and can discolour.
- Polyester glue outdoors on white marble. It can yellow in sunlight; use a non-yellowing epoxy instead.
- Epoxy in cold weather. Below 10°C the cure may never complete.
- Gluing damp stone. Moisture weakens the bond, especially with polyester.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which glue is best for marble?
For indoor joints that will be sanded and polished, a two-part polyester mastic such as Flagstone Fix Mastic Soft. For outdoor, wet or load-bearing bonds, a two-part epoxy such as Flagstone Fix Flagpox 5010, or Flagstone Fix Flagpox Pro Clear 777 on white marble.
Can I use Fevikwik or superglue on marble?
Only for tiny, non-structural chips. Instant glues are brittle, do not fill gaps and cannot be polished, so they fail on slab joints and edges. Use a two-part stone mastic or epoxy instead.
Is there an alternative to Akepox 5010?
Yes. Flagstone Fix Flagpox 5010 is a two-component, solvent-free epoxy adhesive gel for coloured natural and artificial stone, mixed at the same 2:1 ratio. For white marble use Flagstone Fix Flagpox Pro Clear 777, which is non-yellowing.
How long does marble glue take to dry?
Polyester mastics set in minutes and can usually be sanded within hours. Epoxies are slower: Flagstone Fix Flagpox 5010 can bear load after 12 hours and reaches full strength in 7 days.
How do I make a marble joint invisible?
Use a clear polyester such as Flagstone Fix Transparent Soft on veined or translucent stone, or tint the mastic with up to 5% colouring paste to match the stone. Keep the joint thin, then sand and polish it with the surface.
